Happy New Year! We’re going to start off the new year with a blog post discussing URLs.

Defined by “URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. A URL is a formatted text string used by Web browsers, email clients and other software to identify a network resource on the Internet. Network resources are files that can be plain Web pages, other text documents, graphics, or programs.”

So the question for today is – how do you make the most of the URL for your website or blog?

Follow our five easy tips and you will have a great website or blog to showcase your talents, products or company.

Step 1: Try to get a basic, easy website name. For example, if you have a tattoo business called “Anderson Tattoos” try to get the web address This makes it much easier for your clients to remember and find as opposed to a random website address such as

Step 2: If you are a Canadian or have a Canadian business try to buy BOTH the .com and .ca for your website address. This way you can use one to simply redirect to the other.

Step 3: Repeat the same keywords in all of your posts. For example, if you are a writing a blog about homemade diy projects, than include the words homemade and diy in each blog entry. The more you use the keywords you want to rank for, the better your chances of getting on page one in Google search results for that topic.*A small caution to not overdo it or your blog entries can become annoying or boring.

Step 4: Be sure to include images or photographs on your website or blog. These pictures could be of your products, yourself, or of something that relates to your content. Pictures can compliment what you are writing about.

Step 5: If you are selling something online then try to come up with a catchy tagline for your business. This tagline should be short and sweet, while at the same time memorable.
