Google Analytics is a great tool if used correctly. I have spoken to many business owners that don’t fully understand how to harness its powers. One thing I want to talk about this week is browser compatibility. Just because your website runs smoothly on your computer at home doesn’t mean it works on other computers. Does your website have Flash elements? Did you know that Flash doesn’t run on Ipads? These are all things that should be considered when you are updating your website. There have been countless times that I have programmed something and tested it in Firefox and Chrome only to send it to a friend who is using Internet Explorer and hear them complain that it doesn’t work.
If 60% of your users are using Internet Explorer and you have only seen your website through Firefox then you could be missing something – what if your website doesn’t even work at all on other platforms? Do yourself a favour and download Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, and Opera browser and see if your website is browser compatible. Browser incompatibility could be costing your business thousands of dollars each year and you wouldn’t even know it. That’s why it’s great to have a contact section on the site that is highly visible. It has happened to me before, I’m sitting at home watching tv thinking about how great my sites are, and how well they are ranking when all of a sudden I get an e-mail from a random saying something along the lines of “I can’t get the checkout to work”. Don’t get caught out! If you have a web guy that is looking after your site ask him these questions now.
